ABOUT THE CONCERT
“Tosca” is a part of the standard opera repertoire and has allowed many singers to create unforgettable characters. The opera features some of Puccini’s most splendid arias, “Recondita armonia...” and “E lucevan le stelle...”, interwoven with the story of a tragic love between the singer Tosca and the painter Cavaradossi, who fall prey to the police chief Scarpia’s machinations. As with every great work of worldwide fame, the producers are faced with the danger of rendering the opera too banal or too predictable, but the Krakow Opera’s staging of “Tosca” has a lot to recommend itself. Apart from an absolute vocal mastery, the lead singers show excellent acting skills – their characters are deeply moving and believable. The dramatic story of Tosca and Cavaradossi’s love as seen at the Krakow Opera House moves the audience to tears.

ABOUT THE CONCERT
Voice and charisma – that is the unanimous, enthusiastic judgement of the critics when it comes to Jonathan Tetelman. »A star par excellence« is how the New York Times describes him. The Chilean-American tenor is on stage as Alfredo in »La Traviata« at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden or as Pinkerton in »Madame Butterfly« at the Metropolitan Opera and demonstrates his skills in a »dark-coloured tenor timbre« (SZ) and with »balsamic verve« (Der Tagesspiegel), while the audience listens spellbound. Jonathan Tetelman makes his Elbphilharmonie debut with a sonorous journey through the most beautiful tenor arias from the great operas of Puccini, Verdi and others.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
“The artist is a man, and he must write for men. … and you will see true hatred and its bitter fruit.” In the Pagliacci prologue, Tonio tells us what this opera is about – it seeks to put the reality of life on the stage. This applies for both works, which will now enjoy their first new staging at the Bayerische Staatsoper in 46 years (1978). Together Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni and Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo simply exemplify verismo. The basic situation: A woman is unfaithful. Another reveals this to the husband, and he, spurred on by this woman, takes bloody revenge on the lover. Cavalleria rusticana is about Turiddu, who returns to find his old flame Lola again, but she is now married to the carter, Alfio. Turiddu then consoles himself by seducing Santuzza. But the old love is reignited, and Lola betrays her husband, and Turiddu his girlfriend. In Pagliacci, the plot revolves around Nedda and her husband Canio, the leader of a group of comedians. Nedda’s love for him has grown cold, so she turns to the farmer, Silvio.
The direction team at Francesco Micheli’s side have found a common thread for the two operas, written independently of each other, but often performed together: “We want to construct one single story, the story of a man who in Cavalleria rusticana has lost his roots and in Pagliacci tries to re-establish his original ties in a new society, however fails miserably in doing so.”
Performance Dates: July 23 & 25
ABOUT THE CONCERT
One of the astonishing facts of music history is that almost all of the great operas based on Goethe were written in France. Alongside Gounod's and Berlioz's Faust settings and Ambroise Thomas's MIGNON, Jules Massenet's WERTHER is the most prominent example in this series. Premiered in Vienna in 1892, the work is also one of Massenet's most successful operas and, in its expressive immediacy, a pinnacle of the "drame lyric".
Concert performances of WERTHER at the Deutsche Oper Berlin have often offered the opportunity to experience the great tenors of their time in the role of the suicidal poet. After Alfredo Kraus in 1998 and Vittorio Grigolo in 2014, this time it is the turn of the American Jonathan Tetelman, who has already introduced himself to Berlin audiences as Luigi in Puccini's IL TRITTICO and as Paolo il bello in Zandonai's FRANCESCA DA RIMINI. At his side, Aigul Akhmetshina, one of the most exciting female singer discoveries of recent years, sings the role of Charlotte.

ABOUT THE CONCERT
Tosca is an opera by Giacomo Puccini set in Rome in June 1800, at a time when the Kingdom of Naples’s control of the Italian capital was threatened by Napoleon’s invasion of the Apennine Peninsula. It intertwines historical events with fictional characters, while Puccini’s music – through its vivid orchestration, daring harmonies and dramatic pacing – intensifies their personal and political struggles. The lasting appeal of Tosca stems from the composer’s technical mastery of musical form, blending a late Romantic sensibility with innovative modern expression. The title role will be interpreted through a selection of arias by the American-Canadian soprano Sondra Radvanovsky, who, with her wide vocal range and rich repertoire, is considered one of the leading interpreters of both bel canto and verismo – particularly in the operas of Giuseppe Verdi, whose works bridge the two styles. The part of Cavaradossi will once again be sung by Jonathan Tetelman, known for his dark-hued voice and dynamic stage presence. The American tenor signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon in 2021. The role of Baron Scarpia will be performed by the Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, a singer who was initially primarily associated with Mozart roles before dedicating himself to the more psychologically demanding roles of Puccini and Richard Wagner. The star-studded cast, the SNG Maribor Symphony Orchestra and the SNG Maribor Opera Chorus will be conducted by the Lithuanian maestro Modestas Pitrėnas, a graduate of the Mozarteum University, who currently leads the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra.

ABOUT THE CONCERT
Tenors are a rare species, good tenors even more so, brilliant and good-looking ones are about as rare as white unicorns," writes "Klassik begeistert.de" in 2022 about Jonathan Tetelman. "A star par excellence" is what one reads in the New York Times, "dark-colored tenor timbre" (SZ) and "balsamic verve" (Der Tagesspiegel). ABOUT THE CONCERT
Tivoli Copenhagen Phil
Conductor: Garrett Keast
Tenor: Jonathan Tetelman
Soprano: Yana Kleyn
Program:
Excerpts from Charles Gounod's Faust , Riccardo Zandona's Francesca da Rimini , Puccini's Le Villi , Giordano's Fedora and Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet.
He takes down the largest concert halls around the world, and now he has found his way to Tivoli again with a concert where he has composed the entire program himself. The brilliant, Chilean-born tenor star Jonathan Tetelman is coming to Copenhagen, and he has conjured up the idea that the very best opera duets are those between lovers, who we already know from the start often never get to see each other. Something very special happens with both the scenic expression and the composers' imagination when the all-encompassing love, which we as the audience know cannot be allowed to unfold, becomes the focal point.
This is where the very best arias and duets are born, and on this star-studded evening we will hear a terrific selection of the best tragic love duets. We will hear excerpts from Charles Gounod's Faust , where seduction and vanity have fatal consequences; from Riccardo Zandonai's Francesca da Rimini , where the lovers die in each other's arms, stabbed to death by a brother; from Puccini's Le Villi , where a scorned woman returns from the dead as an avenging spirit; and from Umberto Giordano's Fedora , where political intrigue plays the lovers off against each other in a drama that ends with a poisoned gold piece. And then, of course, we will not miss hearing from the unhappy couple of them all: Romeo and Juliet .
It's going to be an evening where it's going to really hurt - but in a good way. Jonathan Tetelman, with his wonderfully warm tenor voice, will go for both the tear ducts and the goosebumps in a program that offers big, well-known hits as well as exciting new acquaintances.
Jonathan Tetelman is one of the greatest talents of his generation. His unique vocals have been described as “incomparable, luminous and distinct” with a “velvety nerve.” In recent seasons alone, he has sung at The Met in New York, the Festival Aix-en-Provence and the Deutsche Oper.
ABOUT THE CONCERT
Chilean-American tenor Jonathan Tetelman came to Prague for the first time in January 2024 and completely captivated the Dvořák Hall, filled to the last seat, with his singing and charm. He also provided an unexpected and spectacular surprise at the end of the concert when choral singing resounded from both sides of the galleries and the balcony: students from the Jan Deyl Conservatory in Prague and the Pardubice Conservatory accompanied Jonathan in the most famous opera hit, Calaf's aria "Nessun dorma". It was an unforgettable evening!
One review of Jonathan's Prague concert had the headline: "A new star of the world tenor sky flew through Prague only for a moment" (Opera+, February 8, 2024). But that is no longer true. In June 2025, Jonathan will return to Prague, accompanied by the Prague Philharmonia in famous arias from operas by Georges Bizet, Jules Massenet, Giacomo Puccini, and Giuseppe Verdi, conducted by the renowned French conductor, composer, and pianist Frédéric Chaslin.

ABOUT THE CONCERT
"A star par excellence," writes the New York Times. Voice and charisma, that is the unanimously enthusiastic verdict of the critics when it comes to Jonathan Tetelman . The tenor, who was born in Chile and grew up in New Jersey, is considered one of the most exciting young singers of our time and is praised for his "vocally magnificent, radiant and unmistakable tenor voice" (Opera Aktuell). Tetelman stands on the stages of renowned houses with world-famous orchestras and shows his skills in "dark-colored tenor timbre" (Süddeutsche Zeitung). For his debut album with Verdi and Verismo arias, the exclusive artist of Deutsche Grammophon promptly received the Opus Klassik 2023 in the category "Young Artist of the Year".
With his current album "The Great Puccini", to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the composer's death, the singer presents famous arias from Puccini's most famous operas. The audience can experience all of these touching works in the Prinzregententheater when Tetelman, together with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, performs a selection of the most beautiful arias by Verdi, Puccini and other famous opera composers - with "tenderness and vocal effortlessness" (SWR Kultur).
Performance Dates: May 8, 14, 17, 25 & 29
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Marco Arturo Marelli brings Verdi's epic opera classic to the stage in a visually stunning way. The struggle for freedom and independence under the rule of the absolutist King Philip II is emphasized as a central theme. The unshakeable power of the church, which is chiselled into the foundations of this society, is always present behind everything. Embodied in the Inquisition, it makes short work of anything that could pose a threat to it by attempting to shake up the existing conditions.
Performance Dates: April 25 & 27
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
For her it is true love, for him just an affair. Giacomo Puccini transformed John Luther Long’s 1898 story of teenaged geisha Cio-Cio-San and cavalier American naval lieutenant Pinkerton into one of the most popular operas of all time – and a commentary on colonialism that remains ripe for re-examination. His music reflects both the orientalism of his time and the sentimentality of late verismo. After leading staged performances in Baden-Baden, Kirill Petrenko presents Madama Butterfly in concert to the Berlin public. The title role will be sung by Eleonora Buratto, who was celebrated for her performance of this part at the New York’s Metropolitan Opera. Star tenor Jonathan Tetelman takes the role of Pinkerton.
Performance Dates: April 12, 15 & 20

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
The production shifts the action to the 1930s and thrives not least on numerous nuances, colors and small gestures: Santuzza's only hinted-at pregnancy, which makes her situation seem all the more hopeless, the fact that she obviously realizes from the outset that Alfio knows full well about his wife's adultery, the reinforcement of the couleur locale through the inclusion of the children, who are so important in society. It emphasizes the strength of the individual women, who, under the pressure of the prevailing stock reactionary machismo, hardly dare to articulate themselves, or only within certain conventions. Inwardly collapsing, they stand almost frozen in front of the audience, in stark contrast to the lamenting women in the background, who "officially" give space to their suppressed feelings.
