Recital: Opéra de Monte-Carlo

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Jonathan Tetelman’s voice was described by the famous German Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as “of intense, inescapable euphony, warmly grounded, full-bodied, yet admirably elegant and supple”.

Born in 1988 in Chile, Tetelman was adopted to the United States as a baby and raised in New Jersey. His training as an opera singer began as a baritone at the Manhattan School of Music, before transitioning to the tenor range at the Mannes School of Music. If this physical and artistic development places him in an impressive line with legendary predecessors such as Ramón Vinay, Carlo Bergonzi, James King and Plácido Domingo, with all of whom he also shares his captivating temperament and dashing looks, we can look forward to a long and glorious career as a spinto tenor.

And indeed, in the barely ten years since his debut in Puccini’s La bohème at the Tanglewood Festival 2018 and following subsequent European debuts in the same opera, Jonathan Tetelman has established himself as THE tenor for the passionate young lovers in the operas of Puccini, Verdi and composers from the verismo period.

Verismo Gala with Berlin Philharmonic: Alte Oper Frankfurt

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Kirill Petrenko, Jonathan Tetelman:

The people of Berlin can certainly be proud of their city, but Rome is Rome! The Eternal City boasts more beautiful fountains, statelier pine trees and livelier festivals. When the Berliner Philharmoniker travels to Frankfurt in December, its members are probably thinking about Rome, 1,000 kilometres further south. Ottorino Respighi dedicated his 'Roman Trilogy' to the Italian capital: a monumental three-part orchestral poem that Kirill Petrenko describes as 'ravishing'. The programme expands from Respighi’s intoxicating soundscapes of Rome to Italian verismo arias, performed by star tenor Jonathan Tetelman. With his intense, dark-toned voice, the Chilean-American singer will create emotional opera moments, backed by one of the world's best orchestras.

Verismo Gala with Berlin Philharmonic: Baden Baden Festspielhaus

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Kirill Petrenko, Jonathan Tetelman:

After many years of performing together at the Easter Festival, the Berlin Philharmonic, under Kirill Petrenko, returns to Baden-Baden – and brings with them a spectacular program: Ottorino Respighi's "Roman Trilogy," interspersed with arias from the Verismo period. The symphonic poems captivate with their colorful orchestral artistry, monumental effects, and a musical language reminiscent of the great Hollywood film scores of the 20th century.
