ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

With "Werther," based on Goethe's famous Sturm und Drang novel, Jules Massenet created a poignant opera full of emotion. The music subtly depicts the tense love triangle between the ecstatic young Werther, his beloved Charlotte, and her staid fiancé Albert. Werther struggles against a life without dreams and ultimately—in the face of his hopeless love—takes his own life. With Jonathan Tetelman in the title role, one of the most successful tenors of the younger generation can be heard for the first time at the Zurich Opera House.
